Herbs that calm the mind and relax the body

Stress, panic attacks and continuous tension have a negative effect on the quality of our lives and our well-being. We are increasingly prone to their effects. In stressful periods in our lives, we often reach for sedatives, but we recommend first trying out natural ways to alleviate stress. What herbs can help mitigate the effects of stress?


Camomile
Camomile is a herb used to treat many ailments. It is known for greatly reducing anxiety and muscle tension. Camomile is also beneficial for the digestive system, eases stomach discomfort, and makes it easier to fall sleep in periods of stress.

Lavender
For hundreds of years, lavender has been valued for its soothing properties. Even its scent relaxes and makes it easier to fall sleep. Lavender oil can be added to the bath or gently sprayed on your bedsheets. This will help you to wind down before bedtime.

Passion flower
Passion flower is especially recommended for people with panic attacks. It has a calming and antidepressant effect. What’s more, it is often used in the treatment of asthma. But keep in mind in some people passion flower may cause undesirable side effects such as dizziness, nausea and headaches.

Valerian
Valerian is another herb often used in periods of increased stress. It allows you to relax and fall asleep easier. It also alleviates anxiety and helps in eating disorders induced by stress.

Lemon balm
Lemon balm is perhaps best-known herb which helps alleviate the effects of stress and anxiety. It facilitates falling sleep and calms nerves. However, remember not to exceed the recommended daily dose (approx. 600 mg) as this may have counterproductive effects, leading to anxiety.

Dandelion
Dandelion reduces the effects of anxiety, relieves stress. It can be served in the form of an infusion of flowers or added to dishes such as salads. Adding a little lemon juice increases its soothing effect.
