Samsung Electronics Portable SSD T1 Leads the Industry in SSD Design Standards

Samsung Electronics was named the winner of multiple world-renowned design awards for the Portable SSD T1, a 32-layer 3D V-NAND external storage solution that’s secure, safe and stylish and boasts a compact design smaller than that of a business card.

Since its launch in January 2015, the Portable SSD T1 has earned numerous design awards, most notably the CES Innovation Awards, an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products, the iF Design Award, a global summit focused on recognizing design in products that are easy to understand and intuitive to operate, and the Red Dot Award in Germany, one of the world’s largest and most recognized professional design competition for design concept and prototypes worldwide.

At the forefront of the design inspiration were speed, safety and style. The Samsung Portable SSD T1 design delivers a new paradigm for design by using ultra-light-weight and durable materials as well as advanced SSD technology. The T1’s sleek premium design is accentuated by its slim compact design, primed for chic portability with laser patterning, jet-black color and chrome metalizing finish. The one terabyte SSD weighs less than 30 grams (one ounce) and is roughly the size of a business card, while its durable, scratch-resistant casing maintains a sleek appearance even for those on the go.

The T1’s design goes beyond just the exterior casing. The drive’s internal design brings increased data processing speeds of IT products to the level of internal SSD and maximizes the user experience for a diversity of consumer electronics devices from ultra-slim laptops to high-end cameras that can film UHD video. The T1 boasts sequential read/write speeds of up to 450MB/s with a USB 3.0 super speed interface, and 8,000 Input Output Per Second (IOPS) and 21,000 IOPS for random read and write speed, respectively. The random write IOPS is approximately 100 times faster than a typical external hard disk drive (HDD).

“We are very proud that the technological advancement and the innovative design of the Portable SSD T1 have been recognized again with these prestigious awards,” said Un-Soo Kim, Senior Vice President of Branded Product Marketing, Memory Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our continued technological innovation of next-generation V-NAND technologies, we plan to introduce additional line-ups with faster speeds and more capacity.”
