Soft armor is becoming a more and more popular method of protection. This constantly developing technology allows to protect health and life increasingly better. This is very reassuring news, so in this article we will focus on discussing why soft armor is such an innovative product. What is soft armor and what can it protect us from?

From primitive armor to Kevlar – the history of armor

Violence has been with us since the dawn of time. From the very beginning, man had to fight for survival with others, so even tribal cultures had primitive types of armor. This type of armor protected the most important vital organs (heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, spinal cord). Copper and iron armor were the next major advancement in combat. The peak of armor made by means of metallurgy was plate armor from the 16th century. Over the following centuries, armor began to undergo many different modifications. Today, the most popular armor consists of all kinds of bulletproof vests, which can be divided into many different types. One of them is the previously mentioned soft armor. This type of armor is made of materials which bend well in different directions, making soft armor very flexible. Soft armor is usually made of highly resistant materials such as Kevlar, Spectra, or Twaron, which provide highly effective protection.

What forms can soft armor take?

Thanks to its flexibility, soft armor can take many forms, but most often it comes in the form of a vest. Nevertheless, individual panels are also very popular, which can be used in various ways – from simple insertion under outer clothing, to a specially designed shirt or jacket. Both individual panels and soft armor in the form of a vest effectively protect against any injuries that we may suffer from an attacker. Soft armor is resistant to stabbing with a knife or other sharp objects. This type of armor is also great against projectiles, but it is worth remembering that against a larger calibre, such as the 44 Magnum, you will need a more durable bulletproof vest.

Nevertheless, soft armor is an excellent choice for all those who want to protect their health and life.
